IPod Battery Guide For Your IPod Nano

By Brian H Logan

iPod battery life is an issue to most iPod users. The iPod battery weakens over a period of time and it is not easily replaced. That's true, to a point, as the battery is lithium based; although it can be recharged up to 500 times, it does degrade over time.

Moreover, because the iPod battery is soldered to the iPod Nano 8GB case, many people that own the device would rather not attempt to change the battery themselves. This caused some users to wonder if the iPod Nano 8GB was intended as a expendable MP3 player? No. Apple designed the iPod Nano 8GB to last a long time.

However, most lithium batteries, such as the iPod battery, last about two years. Although users can expect to obtain 300 to 500 complete charges, eventually, lithium batteries wear out. Users cannot change the battery the way they can with other digital devices.

When Apple designed the iPod Nano 8GB, they incorporated the battery into the devices circuitry. The frustration of unable to change the iPod battery didn't last long though, as savvy marketers capitalized on the situation and offered owners of the iPod Nano 8GB an alternative replacement iPod battery, that had instructions on how to remove the old battery and insert the new one. Apple also offers to replace the iPod battery, but users have to ship their iPod Nano 8GB to the company for replacement.

Users can also learn how to maximize the iPod battery power by logging on to the Apple website. Want to make your iPod battery last longer? Read on: An iPod battery operates at its best when the iPod Nano 8GB is at room temperature, between 0 to 35 C (or 32 to 95 F).

Never leave your iPod Nano 8GB inside a car. You should never expose your iPod Nano 8GB to direct sunlight. When not in use, engage the Pause or Hold button. Take advantage of the Hold function the iPod Nano 8GB offers if you will not be using it for even a few minutes.

Your iPod will continue to play if the hold button is not pressed. Make it a habit to turn off your iPod Nano 8GB when you're not using it to conserve battery power. Most of the time, you will not need back lighting.

Constantly using back lighting will drain your battery faster than anything. Turn off back lighting unless using it is absolutely needed. You can do this by choosing Settings then Back light Timer, then Off. Even when you're not using your iPod Nano 8GB, the battery power is slowly depleting.

While your iPod Nano 8GB is sleeping, the battery is still fully awake, and loses a small amount of current. By ensuring your iPod is used and stored at room temperature, you can significantly limit the amount of battery current being used. Taking this one easy step will maximize the use of your iPod battery.
