Boy, this page hasn't been updated in a while! There have been significant changes in the local scene since the last edit, mainly additions to the music and arts scenes here in Birmingham...an update will be applied soon!

LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS
Alabama Symphony Orchestra
The Alabama Symphony Orchestra is led by musical director Richard Westerfield and performs the majority of its Classical Masterworks concerts in the Jemison Concert Hall of the Alys Stephens Center.

The Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center
The Alys Stephens Center is located on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The ASC is home to a multitude of cultural programs, including artists as fascinating and diverse as Renee Fleming, David Sedaris and the Afro-Cuban All-Stars. The 2003-2004 Laser's Edge Strings Attached Series brings three masters of jazz (Russell Malone - with pianist Benny Green), classical (Carlos Bendfeldt) and fingerstyle guitar (Pete Huttlinger) to the Center's intimate Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall.

The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival
The 5th Annual Sidewalk Festival is coming this Fall - September 19th through 21st, to be exact! Check out the Sidewalk site for details, developments and breaking news.

WBHM-Birmingham
Birmingham's public radio station is located at 90.3 FM on your radio, and on the campus of UAB on your map.

WUAL-Tuscaloosa
WUAL 91.5 FM broadcasts from the campus of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The station is a music-lover's paradise (we especially like the weeknight jazz programming!).

RECORD LABELS
Lost Highway Records
Home to Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams, Tift Merritt, Robert Earl Keen, and the old-time music from O Brother, Where Art Thou?

INDUSTRY LINKS
Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)

You can believe what some schmoe on the street with baggy pants and a lopsided baseball cap tells you about the RIAA, or you can go to their site and research an opinion for yourself. We suggest you do the latter.
