Laser's Edge Compact Discs opened its doors in June of 1991. Owner and admitted music junkie Fred Osuna founded the store with the intention of satisfying his own insatiable passion for music. While he does his best to keep up with his musical curiosities, his real priority is sharing music with his customers and encouraging them to look beyond the Billboard charts. Fred and the rest of the Laser's Edge staff read up on, listen to, and ultimately have opinions about most everything available to your ears. We are located on the historic Curve (now it's just a "T") in downtown Homewood - immediately south of Birmingham - at 2825 18th Street South. If you haven't visited the neighborhood lately, you don't know what you're missing! The area boasts a wide variety of stores for children and big people featuring clothing, housewares, restaurants, bookstores, an award-winning coffeehouse and one of the best bakeries around. And of course, we are here.
Laser's Edge has been a perennial choice as Birmingham's best independent CD store in the Birmingham News' "Best Of Birmingham" Readers' Poll. We also enthusiastically support the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and the Alys Stephens Center on the campus of UAB. During the Fall-to-Spring performing arts season, you can find a section of our store devoted to recordings of works found on the ASO schedule. We also think our two area public radio stations (WBHM-Birmingham and WUAL-Tuscaloosa) are completely righteous, and urge you to support them, as we do.
